Project Linus roots in Denver Colorado: Blankets for kids with Cancer

Project Linus Fundraiser BBQ Silent Auction in Parker

Project Linus is a non-profit national organization that provides handmade blankets to children who are seriously ill or traumatized. Karen Loucks Rinedollar a  Parker  Colorado resident founded Project Linus 15 years ago creating a nationwide sensation to help children with cancer with nothing more than a crochet hook and a ball of yarn.

project linus fundraiser karen loucks rinedollar parker colorado Working for Peanuts Karen Loucks read a story about a little girl with cancer talking about how having her blanket with her during chemo therapy sessions helped her get through the ordeal when Mom and Dad couldn’t be there to hold her hand. Karen had just learned to crochet and thought, well there’s something I can do to help, I can crochet a blanket. Now Project Linus is comprised of hundreds of local chapters and thousands of volunteers across the United States. Each volunteer and local chapter all work together to help us achieve their mission.

Provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “blanketeers.”
Over three million blankets have been delivered to to children in need since 1985.

  1. Awesome! I love to knit and crochet and have friends who make blankets for this. Such an amazing charity!

I always feel like my weak attempts at crocheting wouldn't be worthy of such a wonderful cause but Karen told me that was silly! :)

  2. What a wonderful way to help out and use mad crafty skills! :) Hugs to the Linus folks out there!

  3. LOVE this! I don't knit but my mom does and enjoys it!

  4. wow, this is such an important thing she's doing – I'm happy to jump on this bandwagon. Nothing worse than seeing a kid dealing with a major illness. Thanks for the information.

  5. This is such a great project! I love to crochet and so does my mother-in-law (who taught me!), this is something we will look into. Our foster kids' get blankets from Project Linus from time to time and I know they love them, it is something that is *theirs* and they can take it from home to home. In general they don't have anything to call their own, so it really helps.
