If you are looking for the perfect summer family getaway, mark your calendar to attend the Rocky Mountain Freedom Festival from July 1 to 3, 2011 at the Douglas County Fair Grounds in Castle Rock, Colorado. This new, one-of-a-kind event offers fun and entertainment for all ages. With three fun-filled days of live music on two stages, 90+ arts and craft vendors, a HUGE carnival and midway, beer garden, a spectacular fireworks show and a Kansas City BBQ Society sanctioned BBQ cook-off, visitors are sure to find something fun for their entire family at this spectacular event.

Admission to the Festival for Adults is $5 per day or $10 for a three-day pass. Seniors 60+, kids five and under and those with a valid Military ID are free.

The event will be open Friday, July 1 from 5 to 11 p.m., Saturday, July 2 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday, July 3 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. There will be plenty of free parking for those attending the event.
BBQ Competition
With only two nationally-sanctioned BBQ competitions in the Denver metro area, the Rocky Mountain Freedom Festival BBQ competition with over 70 teams registered to compete is a not-to-be-missed event. Kansas City BBQ Society is the largest BBQ society in the world, with over 16,000 members, and is the official sponsor of this event. This fun event is not only a Colorado State BBQ Championship, but is also a Rocky Mountain BBQ Association Cup Chase event. Join festival attendees at the cook-off as Master Cookers from throughout the US converge on Douglas County to prepare their mouth-watering specialties. These BBQ experts hope to impress the judges and walk away from the competition with $8500 in cash prizes and bragging rights.

Carnival Rides and Games
Don’t forget to check out and enjoy all of the fun carnival rides. As one of the largest carnivals in Douglas County, the Rocky Mountain Freedom Festival brings the biggest and the best including 25+ rides, games and activities for festival-goers. A Ferris wheel, merry-go-round, lots of games and tons of exciting rides will make this the “not to be missed” event of the year. For the carnival, visitors can purchase unlimited ride wristbands online for $20 or at the door for $25. Family Fun Packs may also be purchased for $80 and include four admission tickets, two unlimited carnival wristbands and 30 food tickets (a $100 value). If a Family Fun Pack is purchased in advance, festival-goers will save $20 off the original price!

Live Music
The Rocky Mountain Freedom Festival is proud to offer one of the largest musical line-ups in Douglas County. With some of Colorado’s most sought after musical groups taking the stage alongside regional and national talent, festival-goers will be entertained with a variety of music and performance styles throughout the entire weekend.

Friday August 21, 6-10 p.m. This was my first “taste” of brew festival last year and um… well, lets just say I tasted A BUNCH of beer!

The event site is great, it poured rain the entire time but my wife, myself and our group of friends didn’t let that spoil our fun. It’s not only brews but lots of food to sample, and 1 winery had samples (this made my wife happy). There are food and ale booths set up outside and in, and the atmosphere is just flat out fun!

If you are into the art side of it you can enjoy the large art exhibit along with the wildlife exhibit. This gives you something to do while you are letting your beer settle so you can go and sample some more.

Here are the details for this year from their website

The Wildlife Experience will host its annual Art and Ale Festival on Friday, August 21. This event features a dazzling lineup of musical entertainment, bountiful brews and tantalizing treats. You will soak up good food and frosty beverages from some of our finest local breweries and restaurants, and you are welcome to peruse The Wildlife Experience’s galleries and exhibits. Ticket prices are $40 per person and $70 per couple. Members of The Wildlife Experience receive a discounted rate of $30 per person. Art and Ale will take place on August 21, rain or shine. This is a 21 and over only event.

If you see me there, come and say Hi! I’ll treat you to a brew!
