The Douglas County Library continues it’s local Colorado author series with a Free Father’s Day event featuring author John Newkirk sharing his memoir, The Old Man and the Harley
Johns father Jack went on a tour on his Harley-Davidson in 1939 that spanned from the New York World’s Fair to the Golden Gate International Exposition with a group of young men growing up along the way in the age of the Great Depression.

Seventy years later, the younger Newkirk took 89-year-old Jack across the country by motorcycle again, retracing Jack’s first epic ride, which evolved into his military service during World War II. It is a story of grit, guts and ingenuity, and a timely lesson from the Greatest Generation on how America can overcome her hardest challenges.
